# About Rappelz
Rappelz is a free-to-play MMORPG played around the world by thousands and thousands of players. Creating an avatar in Rappelz is easy and will set you up in a devastated world filled with magic and chaos in a heroic fantasy environment.
# Lore
The world′s order was maintained by the cycle of creation and extinction. Two gods who had the control over light and darkness were in charge of the order.
The two gods, respected and trusted more than any other gods, decided that they would take care of the materialistic world in which humans were living, promising a great future to them. Thus, Deva and Asura representing light and darkness were sent to the earth to help the humans build a successful civilization. From that day on humans were called Gaians, representing their origin of which they should be proud of forever - Gaia.
Time passed and the Gaians seemed to be stabilized. Overcoming different crises and finding the path to freedom and peace. The civilization began to bloom.
One day a witch appeared, practicing black magic and trying to make the world hers. Peace began to falter. By promising great power to those who support her she gained lots of followers and became even more powerful. Many people were deluded to the witch′s temptation and followed her like fanatics causing great confusion in Gaia. Her power was so great that Deva, Asura and Gaians had to work as one to stop her.
After a long lasting battle between Deva, Asura and Gaians against the witch, the witch was finally caught and burnt at the stake. Peace came back to Gaia.
A few decades later there was a new movement in Gaia, which endangered the world peace anew.
## What is a MMORPG?
MMORPG stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game. It basically means that this is an online game where you write your own history with your avatar and share it with thousands of other players in a persistent world.
### Role-playing aspect
In Rappelz, each player has the possibility to choose a profession, From Assassin to Priest, Dark Mage to Knight. This is usually defined by users’ preferences and they tend to play a role sticking to their profession. For example, a Priest will have support skills and should, by definition, be nice to other players. Not really looking for melee combat, the Priest will have low defense but good support abilities to help him or the others surviving the numerous in-game challenges. Role-Playing is also the background story of your character that you create yourself.
Many online users like sharing self-made stories and use their imagination to enhance their gaming experience. There are three different Races in game, Asura, Gaïa and Deva. It is important for you to choose according to your correctly as each race will define your set of skills and appearance.
### How is Rappelz different?
The core of Rappelz is its pet system. Every single character in Rappelz can train a pet to fight on his side with many different purposes (tanking, damage dealing, healing, support, etc…). There are currently so many different creatures in the world of Rappelz, each with many different appearances, skills and abilities. The rarer your pet is, the more destructive your character will be.
